Burial Arrangements

Supporting Families with Care and Dignity

At Moor Lane Synagogue, we are committed to ensuring that every member of our community is able to receive a dignified Jewish burial in accordance with Sephardi Orthodox tradition.

As part of standard synagogue membership, every member is registered with the Board of Elders / Sephardi Burial Board. This registration automatically extends to all eligible members of the family included within the membership, providing reassurance that arrangements are already in place when they are needed.

A Simple and Transparent Approach

Unlike insurance-style burial schemes with ongoing premiums, our arrangement operates on a straightforward pay-at-need basis.

When a burial is required, the family simply pays the actual cost of the burial, which is typically in the region of £1,100–£1,500 (subject to the prevailing costs at the time). There are no additional burial subscription charges beyond your normal synagogue membership.

Funeral Arrangements

In Manchester, funeral arrangements are normally coordinated by Misaskim Manchester, working sensitively with families and the appropriate burial authorities in accordance with established local Jewish practice. Misaskim provides practical guidance and support throughout the process, helping families navigate what can be a very difficult time with compassion and professionalism.

If a Bereavement Occurs

Should a member of your family pass away, please contact the synagogue as soon as possible. We will guide you through the next steps and help coordinate the necessary arrangements with the appropriate organisations.

Our community is here to support families not only with the practical aspects of burial, but also with pastoral care and assistance during the period of bereavement.

If you have any questions about burial arrangements or would like further information, please don’t hesitate to contact the synagogue office.
